The Realization of a Dream

So. I got to do something today that I've been dreaming about for-pretty much-ever. It's a simple thing, really. I got my haircut. So I could closer resemble a character I'll be playing. (As I was watching myself type that I found myself wishing that this character, I've yet to describe, only existed inside my head. And I went out and got a haircut to play a character IN LIFE. But only genuises do that.)

I did, however, realize a dream today. Which is beyond exciting. I've always wanted to walk into a hair salon with a giant mop of hair, an unkempt beard and say, "whaddaya suppose Captain Ahab would look like? Give me your rendition..." This is just an example, of course.

I went to a barbershop near my house and I told the lady that I needed a haircut for a character. She responded with, "we get that all the time." Not in a crappy way but in a hey this is Hollywood way, that only dampened my spirits a tad. She then asked what character I'd be playing and I said, "well, he's kind of a guido, 'Growing up Gotti' kid, Jersey shore kind-of guy." And she replied, "So this guys kind of a Monster?" And I said, "Yeah" but part of me knew that she heard me wrong. Because she had only heard the word "Gotti." I then explained to her what I really needed. Although, I really wish that when she asked me if the character was a "Monster" I just answered Yes and left it at that. The truth is that I'd love it if people described ME as a Monster. A nice, helpful, entertaining, and funny monster but a monster nonetheless. The point is she really hit the nail on the head but I needed to get my point across.

So, I then explained to her exactly how to cut my hair.. to make me look like an asshole. The result is exactly what I wanted. When I dump a goof-ball's amount of gell in my hair it has the desired effect.

The thing I wasn't ready for was how my hair looks when it's not gelled up. I was surprised to see that I look like an even bigger asshole when it's dry. It looks as though I walked into the barbershop and yelled "Make this hairdo look as close as humanly possible to whatever is living on Nick Cage's head." No disrespect to Nick Cage, I loved Armageddon.

It was a great day. And I love my haircut. I've only gotten one honest person who said "I hate that haircut" all day. He's right and it's still early. I hope my next character cut is really extreme, though. Like a nice giant, dyed mohawk. Always wanted a mohawk. Maybe a crazy looking clown do... hair dyed bright red, bald spot shaved up the middle. The Bozo. That's what I'd like.

"GIVE ME... THE BOZO!"
